Lori Sauceda’s Bio - Lori began her dog training career at the age of 5 when she inherited a Pekinese that no one else in her family could touch.  Feeding, cleaning, walking was her responsibility from day one.  Through much trial and error (and a few bites) she turned that ferocious little monster into a loveable lap dog anyone could touch.

From there she moved on to her true love, horses.  By the age of 12 she was training other people’s horses for them.  After years of teaching western pleasure and English riding lessons, she returned to dogs.  Her first show dogs were Bichon Frise; she owned and showed some of the first in Michigan.  Along with the Bichons, she owned a black Lab who was her faithful companion for 14 years.

Upon the loss of her Lab she turned to a large breed, the Bull Mastiff.  She loved their floppy lips and big wrinkly heads!  Her female, Makalia, went from gangly puppy to U-CDX BRS Makalia Key CDX, receiving scores in the 190’s.

While Lori was showing Makalia, her children had a growing desire for dogs of their own.  With children wanting to show, Lori turned to instructing junior handling.  Many of her students grew from Pee Wees into full-fledged junior handlers, showing and winning in the AKC/UKC Open classes.  Around the same time she became 4-H dog show leader and continued teaching juniors for 15 years.
During this time she joined the Kalamazoo Dog Training Club, becoming one of their instructors for the Puppy, Beginning, CGC, and competitive obedience classes.  She also teaches classes at the Kalamazoo Kennel Club.

Lori has shown her own and other people’s dogs in conformation, including handling dogs to UKC championships and points in the AKC conformation ring.  She is currently showing her Neopolitan Mastiff, Pen, in conformation and competitive obedience.  She and Pen just finished their AKC CD.

She has been a professional groomer in her own salon, Blue Ribbon Grooming, for 20 years.  She grooms dogs for both show and pet owners.
